Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman is bringing her acclaimed musical, The Bedwetter, to Washington, D.C.’s Arena Stage. The production is set to begin performances on February 4, 2025, at the Kreeger Theater, with a run scheduled through March 16. Adapted from Silverman’s 2010 memoir, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee, the musical offers a humorous and poignant look at her experiences as a 10-year-old dealing with her parents’ divorce, a new school, and the challenges of childhood bedwetting.
The production features music composed by the late Adam Schlesinger, known for his work with Fountains of Wayne, who collaborated with Silverman on the lyrics. Additional music and lyrics are provided by Tony Award-winner David Yazbek. The book is co-written by Silverman and playwright Joshua Harmon, with direction by Anne Kauffman, who previously helmed the show’s Off-Broadway premiere in 2022.
Two-time Tony Award nominee Shoshana Bean has been cast as Beth Ann, Silverman’s mother, in the production. Silverman expressed her excitement about Bean’s involvement, stating, “I’m pinching myself. Shoshana Bean is a stunning performer, and I’m so proud she has chosen The Bedwetter for her next project.” Bean shared her enthusiasm, noting, “This project and this team grabbed my heart in a very special and unique way. I’m so excited to be in the room with them and honored to get to be a part of telling this equally heartbreaking and hilarious story.”
Tickets for The Bedwetter are currently on sale, with additional casting announcements expected in the coming weeks. Audiences can anticipate a blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling in this unique theatrical experience.
