David Bowie – Young Americans (1975)

Young Americans is the ninth studio album by David Bowie, released in March 1975 on RCA Records.  Young Americans marked a departure from the glam rock style, showcasing his mid-1970s interest in African American soul and R&B music.

Initial recording sessions for Young Americans took place in Philadelphia with producer Tony Visconti and a variety of musicians, including guitarist Carlos Alomar, , and singer Luther Vandross. Later sessions took place in New York City, and included contributions from John Lennon. Bowie would call the album’s sound “plastic soul” and though critically panned, Young Americans made Bowie a Superstar in America.

Dark Side of the Moon will remain as a timeless classic because of how innovative and unique it was for its time. The eighth album by Pink Floyd, released in March 1973, the was album built on ideas explored in earlier recordings and live shows It thematically explores conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness. 

The album was an immediate commercial and critical success; it topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd’s most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide.
