Spring is finally here! (maybe) That means cranking up the AC will bring higher electric bills. That’s not good news for folks in a state whose electric costs are among the nation’s highest.

Americans shelled out $22 billion for electricity last year, an 11% increase over 2021. Louisiana residents complaining about their electric bills on social media is a regular occurrence. Ownerly reports 18 states saw their energy bills jump by 10% or more last year. Hawaii residents saw an average increase of $40.00 a month. California and Hawaii have the highest rates, but the lowest usage.

Louisiana uses the most electricity in the US. Bayou state residents pay an average of $150.86 per month. That’s the 7th highest in the nation. Air conditioning isn’t a luxury here. I guess that’s the price we pay for living in a sub tropical climate.
