The Who – My Generation (UK Release)/Boz Scaggs
The Who – My Generation (UK Release)
My Generation is the debut studio album by The Who … this was an explosive debut at the time … It was 1965, The Beatles and The Stones were still doing pop … self-admitting, the band called this album rushed and not a representative of what they were doing in their live shows … the lp was released in two different versions … The UK version titled My Generation and the US release came four months later as The Who Sings My Generation … Today we will hear the reissued UK release on 180 gram vinyl …
My Generation became the blueprint for subsequent garage rock, heavy metal and punk … at the time it pushed the boundaries of rock music … Here’s a piece of trivia for you … Nicky Hopkins, of Rolling Stones Fame and Jimmy Page both are contributors to the lp … the album was listed at #237 on Rolling Stones Greatest Albums of All Time … and Mojo Magazine ranked the lp as the second greatest guitar album of all time … Best Ever Albums Dot Com and Digital Dream Door Dot Come both consider My Generation as the 7th best lp of 1965 and the 67th best of the 1960’s
Notable Tracks – ‘My Generation’ ‘A Legal Matter’ ‘The Ox’ ‘The Kids Are Alright’
Boz Scaggs
Boz Scaggs is the second solo lp .. released in 1969… Departing the the Steve Miller Band after a two lp stint, signed with Atlantic Records and the label had him set up in Muscle Shoals … the album was produced by Jan Wenner – co founder of Rolling Stone Magazine .. and featured the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and guitar work from a young Duanne Allman…
The album was mostly ignored by listeners and critics … it only sold 20,000 copies within the first few years … I came upon this album by mistake … It was 1971 and a few friends and I were spending our spring break in Daytona Beach .. A friend and I were taking a late afternoon stroll down the beach and came upon a band shell … It was Boz Scaggs … they were in the middle of “Loan Me A Dime” – we stayed for the remainder of the show and when I got home I bought the album … It has been in my collection ever since … this weekend, you will be listening to a 180 gram reissue I picked up a few years ago …. In retrospect the reviews have improved … Side two features the signature “Loan Me A Dime” … Duanne Allman delivers one of rock’s greatest guitar solos on this song…
Notable Tracks – ‘Loan Me A Dime’ ‘I’m Easy’ ‘Now You’re Gone’
