Houses and buildings settle. During the night, when the world is quiet, it is easier to hear creaks and thumps and voices. Is it really nothing or could it be something paranormal like a ghost?
JP, the Vehicular Specialist recently moved into a different house and ever since he moved into this brick home in Lafayette, he has trouble sleeping. He took a moment to talk to me about the strange things keeping him awake at night.
JP is pretty certain that the house he is living in just might be haunted. He and his girlfriend have been hearing lots of weird noises. The couple will be relaxing in his home and the both of them will hear strange sounds and even voices. They haven’t been able to figure out the source of the noise. He believes it could be leftover residual energy from the previous tenants. He heard rumors that the couple who once lived in this house may have been involved with drugs and violence. JP plans doing a thorough cleaning and getting the home blessed.
It is very possible that it could be ghosts haunting his home. But it could also be something else. According to an article in Scientific American, there some research-backed reasons why hauntings occur.
- Low Frequency sounds – If it is a sound that is too high pitched for our ears to interpret, it can cause a feeling of uneasiness and even give us chills and a feeling of nervousness and fear.
- Mold – Exposure to mold can disrupt eh neurological process of the brain and cause symptoms of delirium, dementia and fear. Science has found a clear link between hauntings and mold.
- Carbon Monoxide – Breathing in carbon monoxide can cause hallucinations. People exposure will hears sounds that don’t exist and even a feeling of pressure on the chest.
- The Power of Suggestion – People are most likely to believe in ghost if surrounding with someone else who also believes in the paranormal.
- Drafts – A breeze will cause doors to close and objects to rattle
- We love being afraid – When a person gets terrified, the brain will release dopamine producing a euphoric high. Dopamine is a chemical associated with pleasure. So in other words it fun to get scared.
