This coming weekend, Elvis Aaron Presley would have celebrated his 85th birthday. I was a huge Elvis fan growing up in Detroit. There was a movie theater just a few blocks from our home in Hazel Park, located on 8 Mile, the road made famous by Eminem … For fifty cents, we would get in the theater and have enough to get popcorn, candy and a Coke. Ponder that! It was at the Oakdale Theater that I saw every Elvis Movie. Many times, there was a double feature – Harum Scarum and GI Blues would play on the same Sunday afternoon. Some days I would just stay to watch the movie again … Being the oldest of seven in our household, I think our parents found this a cheap way to get us out of the house. (I guess this is something else I should thanks my parents for.)
This weekend, The Rewind will celebrate Elvis’ 85th with an Elvis Presley Weekend, and On The Turntable will air all four sides of Elvis – 30 #1 Hits a greatest hits collection of songs … The lp was released in September 2002 and was an instant success going straight to the top of the album charts in numerous countries … The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200
By 2003 Elvis: 30 Number One Hits had received certifications in more than 17 regions and had sold millions of copies worldwide … in 2018 it was announced the Recording Industry Association of America had certified 30 Number Ones as 6x platinum ..
Elvis: 30 #1 Hits debuted at number one in seventeen territories around the world … including the US, the UK, France, Australia and Brazil … The lp stayed on the Billboard 200 for one hundred and twelve weeks and delivered Elvis his first number lp since 1973 … I found the album to be a good reflection of Elvis’ musical life … it even includes a remix of ‘A Little Less Conversation’ by Junkie XL that was released earlier that year and hit number one on the UK and Australian charts … Best Ever Albums Dot Com considers 30 number ones as the 61st best lp of 2002.
Elvis – 30 #1 Hits features many of those songs from those movies that I enjoyed so much as a child …
