Closures in Acadiana Due to COVID-19

Local governments are keeping watch on the status of the Coronavirus or also known as COVID-19. As of yesterday, there are 103 cases that have tested positive in Louisiana. Two people have passed away from the virus. There are 10 parishes with cases. The majority of the cases are in New Orleans. There are currently no cases in Lafayette or Acadiana.

According to a report, Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory announced that government buildings will be closed. This closure is intended to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Due to the Coronavirus Crisis Lafayette Parks and Recreation has canceled their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 5, 2020, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Xtreme Baseball Spaghetti Cookoff at Clayton Boudreaux Memorial Park Canceled
As part of social distancing in the wake of COVID-19 coronavirus, activities at both Carencro’s Pelican Park and the Carencro Sports Complex have been suspended for the next two weeks. This suspension of activities is part of a fluid situation that could be extended past the two-week period.

The city of Broussard facilities will be closed to the public effective 3/16/2020. The healthcare professionals working with our parish and our city have recommended limiting person-to-person contact. The City of Broussard considers the health and safety of our residents and staff to be paramount and is complying with all Parish requests to protect our citizens, visitors, and employees.
Facilities closed to the public include but are not limited to Broussard City Hall ) our drive-thru will remain open for you to conduct business), Broussard Sports Complex sports areas, Broussard Community Center. All-City staff will report to work, and our City Government will remain in operation.

Easter Family Fest, originally scheduled for April 4, has been canceled. The Carencro Cultural District looks forward to hosting its other scheduled special events this fall and holiday season.

City Hall, the parish courthouse, Library buildings will all be closed. The Library drive-thru will be open and will be accepting call ahead orders.

LUS and LUS Fiber accepting drive-thru payment, or payments can be made by mail, phone and online.

LSUE – Face-to-face classes at LSUE in Eunice will be suspended and moved online beginning Monday, March 30.

4-H Achievement Day – suspended.

Diocese of Lafayette schools – All Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Lafayette will follow the same school closure as public schools in the state. The closure will begin on March 16 and resume on April 13, 2020.

ULL Lafayette will begin remote course delivery. Alternative delivery methods begin on Wednesday, March 18.

UL Lafayette Spring 2020 Sun Belt Conference – Canceled

First Baptist Christian School is following Governor’s proclamation and will close the school until April 13.

Ascension Episcopal School (all three campuses) – students will not report to the school beginning on Monday, March 16. The school will send an update to parents.

Gethsemane Christian Academy will be closed from March 16 to April 13.

St. Mary/Vermilion CAA Head Start Centers to close until April 20.
Acadiana Christian School in New Iberia – closed March 16 – April 13

The Acadiana Po’Boy Festival set for April 4 has been postponed and will be held at a later date.
Cajundome events: Kiss and Toughest Monster Trucks are postponed. Cirque du Soleil’s Lafayette performances have also been canceled.

Friends of the Library book sale in Lafayette set for March 26-28 has been postponed.
Activities at LCG senior centers.
The senior citizen workshop on March 18 in Arnaudville is canceled.
The Alexandre Mouton House will be closed effective Tuesday.
The Festival of Live Oaks, set for March 21 has been postponed.
The Acadiana Dragon Boat races set for March 28 has been postponed.
The 12th Annual Heartstrings & Angel Wings Gumbo Cookoff originally scheduled for March 21 is going to be postponed.
The Liberty Theater will be closed to performances until further notice.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana will be closed effective Monday, March 16 resuming Monday, April 13.
April 4th ACT testing at Acadiana High canceled.
Acadiana Po-Boy Festival is canceled for April 4 and will be rescheduled in the summer.
Carencro’s Easter Family Fest set for April 4 has been canceled.
Shadows on the Teche is closed through March 28.
Rhythms on the River in Lafayette has postponed its start date for its spring series. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
St. Francis Diner in New Iberia will be closed March 16-20.
State Officials have canceled Rosedown’s participation in the Audubon Pilgrimage, March 20-22.
United Christian Outreach is closed until further notice. Please do not drop off any donations or visit the site until further notice.
The monthly meeting of Notariat Acadien was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Mar 18 at 6 pm at the Lafayette Public Library, downtown has been canceled.

LSU is suspending face-to-face classes due to concerns over the novel coronavirus and will transition to online courses March 30
All on-campus events and LSU-sponsored off-campus events of 30 attendees or more to be canceled effective immediately, through May 30.

Events with fewer than 30 attendees will need to receive approval through the LSU Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and any exceptions may also be requested through the EOC. Email [email protected] for event approvals.

Southern University’s Law Center is canceling classes from March 16-22.
Southeastern University will transition all in-person classes to remote instruction until further notice.
Others in the state

Loyola, UNO, and Xavier will begin online-only instruction on Monday, whereas Tulane and SUNO will begin a week later, on March 23. Tulane’s last classroom sessions will be on Friday, followed by a week off to let students and faculty prepare.
