Life exists within a 3d space, also called the 3rd dimension. In this plane, there is length, width, and depth. Imagine how our world would appear if somehow humans transitioned down to the 2nd dimension. You may not think that there is much of a difference, but 2d space has no depth, only length and width. You could not even read this article in 2d space, since when you look at the shape of the letters you are looking at them from a perspective that requires depth.

All that would be visible is a line with objects in the line and that’s only if seeing objects is even possible in the 2nd dimension. It is like looking at a square on its side, not a cube, a square. You cannot see its four sides or four corners, only one to two sides depending on where you observe it. And that side of the square takes up nearly everything you can see in that direction. You can look around the square from the left or the right, but you cannot look over or below it, there is no up or down in 2d space.

So, life is weird in 2d space, everything is the flattest flat that it can be with no depth. It’s kind of hard to wrap your head around but what you see and how you move would be very simplified, and the only way you could tell a square was a square is if you walked around it, and counted its sides and corners. It would be a strange experience to say the least.
