Two groups in the Midwest are fighting to get more protection for the bison residing in the Yellowstone National Park. According to an article posted by AP News, a judge has ordered US Fish and Wildlife services to reexamine a past decision that limits protection of Yellowstone’s Bison population.
AP News reports that the Buffalo Field Campaign along with the Western Watershed Project have both been pushing the government to offer more protection for bison. This fight has been going on for the last 8 years. These groups argue that there are two different types of bison roaming in the park and each type needs protection. So the groups are pushing to increase the number of bison protected from 3,000 to 6,000.
The court will review the case in two months.
